Boards and Committees
Diaconate Board: The Board of the Diaconate shall have as its primary concern the ministries of worship and spiritual life.
With the minister, the diaconate shall see that worship services are ordered and conducted in an environment in which the worshipers may truly come into the presence of God. Among their concerns for worship are the scriptural basis, quality, and relevance of the sermons, the serving of communion, the interior appointment of the sanctuary, the appointment of ushers, and the type and quality of music.
The diaconate, with the minister, constantly seeks to deepen and enrich the spiritual life of the members, that all may know themselves as children of God, called into fellowship with Him and with one another. Devotional groups, programs appropriate to the seasons of the Church year such as Advent and Lent, and retreats, planned in conjunction with the Evangelism and Christian Education Boards, will be among the means employed.
Board of Trustees: It is the primary purpose of the Board of Trustees to materially support the other boards and committees in carrying out the purpose of the Church. Subject to the approval of the congregation, the Board may borrow money, as well as buy, sell, lease, mortgage, transfer or alter the real and intangible property of the church. The trustees shall employ such personnel as may be required to purchase and maintain the property and to administer the affairs of the church including musical instruments.
The board shall prepare the operating budget of the church for approval by the Church Council prior to submitting it for approval by the congregation. This budget shall include the salaries of all church employees. The salaries will be determined after receiving recommend¬ations from the responsible boards and committees. The board shall be responsible for directing the treasurer, who serves as an ex-officio member of the board, to disburse all monies which are available as operating funds, according to the operating budget and such other operating needs of the church as may arise.
Christian Education Board: It is the responsibility of the Board of Christian Education to provide an adequate program of study of Christian teachings for church members of all ages.
The Board's program of study includes Sunday school classes for all school-age students with the advice of the board, the minister, and the director of Christian Education, when one has been called by the congregation. The board is also responsible for obtaining volunteers from the congre¬gation to serve as teachers, and for providing them with suitable and adequate educational materials.
The board shall also administer a program of study classes for adult members of the congregation, according to the needs and expressed wishes of the congregation. These classes may be taught by the minister or by qualified lay members appointed by the board.
Stewardship Board: The Stewardship Board is responsible for the enlistment of the time, talent, and treasure of the congregation. This enlistment shall provide for separate contributions to the benevolence and operating budgets of the church. The board prepares the benevolence budget of the church. It is the responsibility of this board to accept funds contributed in the memory of deceased members of the church, and recommend to the church council ways to disburse these funds to honor the memories of these persons.
Evangelism Board: The purpose of the Board of Evangelism is to communicate the gospel of God's love made known in Jesus Christ.
The board secures hosts/hostesses to serve social hour following worship service. They also host the social hour for Easter Sunday, the Christmas Wassail, Confirmation Sunday, and special recognitions. They assist in classes to prepare adults and youth for church membership, programs for assimilation of new church members into the life of the church, opportunities for fellowship in conjunction with worship services, and are responsible for news articles about the church.
Church Council: The Church Council consists of the Chairman of each of the boards, the moderator, vice moderator, minister, treasurer, clerk, and committee chairs. The Church Council shall meet monthly or as necessary. It shall be the duty of the Church Council to evaluate, coordinate, and approve the various programs of the boards, committees, and offices of the church. It shall be responsible for the development of long-range objectives for the congre¬gation, and it shall guide the various boards and committees in their programming toward the accomplishment of these objectives.
Music Committee: To ensure an adequate and relevant program of music in the total life of the church, there shall be a Music Committee as a sub committee of Diaconate. It shall be the responsibility of this committee to provide meaningful music throughout the entire church program, partic¬ularly in the areas of worship and Christian education
Fellowships: Members of this church may establish organizations within the church for the purpose-of fellow¬ship or study. The programs and activities of any such fellowship that may be so established are subject to the authority of the church council.
